Orenburg’s leading Russian Premier League goalscorer this season, Djordje Despotovic, scored the only goal of the game against Latvians Spartaks Jurmala. After having lost their first three winter friendlies, they have finished their second training camp unbeaten in the last three.

Orenburg started strongly as Despotovic and Mamadour Sylla were heavily involved. The latter scooped a good chance over from a slight angle when through on goal after 10 minutes. Despotovic chipped a short cutback to Danijel Miskic moments later but the pass was cut out.

Timur Ayupov’s ambitious overhead kick after a quarter of an hour was always more hopeful than realistic. Four minutes later, however, a far more traditional route to goal saw Despotovic head home Ricardo Alves’ corner.

Alves saw his curling long-range shot crash back off the crossbar on 58 minutes. Fedor Chernykh really should have done better with his direct header from Artem Kulishev’s chipped cross moments later.

Kulishev was busy in his second-half cameo off the bench. He set up another clear shooting chance for Chernykh, as well as laying a six-yard chance on a plate for Joel Fameyeh in the final 20 minutes.

Orenburg return to Turkey for their third and final training camp on Monday 10 February.
