Artem Dzyuba became top Russian scorer in the Champions League

Zenit striker Artem Dzyuba scored his ninth goal in the Champions League main stage in the group stage fixture against Lazio at Stadio Olimpico.

The forward became top Russian scorer in the history of the tournament, which started in 1992/93 season. Previously Dzyuba shared the lead with former Spartak Moscow midfielder Andrey Tikhonov, who scored eight times. Current CSKA player Alan Dzagoev has seven goals from the previous seasons.

With taking European Cup into account Sergey Yuran is still top Russian goal scorer in the tournament with 13 goals: he scored seven times for Benfica in the European Cup and also had three Champions League goals both for Spartak and Sturm Graz.

Dzyuba made his debut in the Champions League in 2008, when he was playing for Spartak Moscow against Dynamo Kiev in the third qualifying round and scored one goal. He played in the group stage for the first time with Zenit in 2015/16 season and scored six times. Next two goals were scored by Dzyuba during the 2019/20 campaign in the home games against Benfica and Lyon.

Zenit faced Lazio in Rome on 24 November and finished with 1-3 defeat.
