Yuri Kalitvintsev is the head coach of FC“Volga”

Yuri Kalitvintsev (05.05.1968), a  well-known football player in the past and now a coach, was named a new head coach of “Volga” Nizhny Novgorod. 

“Yuri Kalitvintsev became a new head coach of FC “Volga”. I think he will be able to give a new impulse to development of the team. Yuri Nikolaevich is a talented young specialist who has already got rich experience of coaching work at the international level. I am confident that fans will support the new head coach who is remembered well as a player of “Lokomotiv” Nizhny Novgorod. I wish him luck at the new position!”, - a deputy governor of Nizhegorodskaya oblast and a chairman of FC “Volga” board  Dmitry Svatkovsky said.

In an interview to the club's official site the chairman of the board said that the specialist signs a contract with Nizhny Novgorod club for 2,5 years and joins “Volga” during upcoming days at a training camp in Belek, Turkey.

“Yuri Nikolaevich headed Ukrainian youth team which won Euro-2009, he worked in a coaching staff of Ukrainian main national team at Euro-2012. But many people in Nizhny Novgorod know Yuri Kalitvintsev as a player of “Lokomotiv” Nizhny Novgorod for which he successfully played in 1990s and as a creative and bright football player, a true leader of the team. It is a pleasure that he came back to Nizhny Novgorod in a new position. I want to wish Yuri Nikolaevich to fully demonstrate rich game experience and coaching skills in “Volga”. In its turn, the club will make all possible to help Yuri Nikolaevich work effectively”, - Dmitry Svatkovsky said.

At the time Kalitvintsev played for “Rotor” Volgograd, “Dynamo” Moscow, “Lokomotiv” Nizhny Novgorod, “Dynamo” Kiev, Turkish “Trabzonspor”.

At the club level Yuri Nikolaevich headed “Zakarpattia” Uzhgorod and the reserves of “Dynamo” Kiev, he also worked with national teams. In particular, he won Euro-2009 with Ukrainian youth national team. He also worked as an acting head coach of Ukrainian national team and from April 2011 to July 2012 he was an assistant of Oleg Blokhin in a coaching staff of Ukrainian team.
