print version

FC Krasnodar reached an agreement with FC Anji about transfer of 26-year old midfield of Uzbekistan National team Odil Akhmedov to the black-and-green team, as the website of the club informs.

Odil Akhmedov was born on 25 November 1987 in the Uzbek city of Namangan, which belonged to the USSR, as well as all Uzbekistan, at that time. As a young talent, he was invited to the football academy of Pakhtakor Tashkent, where he had his professional debute in 2006 at the age of 18.

In the club of Uzbekistan capital Akhmedov spent 5 seasons, he won with Pakhtakor championship of the country two times and cup of the country three times. 2007 was the most successful for Odil and his team, early in 2007 they won CIS Cup and then won championship and cup of the country. In the same season this central midfield received his first invitation to the National Team of Uzbekistan, where he is playing now as a leading player and the captain. It is also worth pointing out that Odil Akhmedov got an award as the Best Player of his country twice in 2009 and 2011. And if the first time he got this award as a player of Pakhtkor, the second time was when he was playing in Russia for Anji.

Akhmedov moved to Makhachkala in February 2011, first on a loan, but soon the club from Dagestan capital bought his transfer from Pakhtakor. The first year in Russia was very successful for Odil - he became one of the key players of the whole team and besides the title of the Best Player of Uzbekistan he deserved the recognition of Anji supporters, who called him the Player of the Year within the team from Makhachkala. At the same time halfback of Uzbekistan National team found himself in the zone of interest of many European clubs, the most well-known of which was Arsenal from London.

In August 2012 in the preliminary round match of UEFA Europa League against Dutch Vitesse, Akhmedov was badly injured and needed a long time for recovery. But in the season 2012/2013 Odilov helped Anji to win the bronze medals of the Russian Championship and to qualify to the Cup of Russia final, where the team from Makhachkala lost to CSKA only on penalties.

The selection service of Krasnodar Team has been watching closely Akhmedov for several years, but Anji did not want to part with the player, and Odil also kept his dedication to the colours of Anji refusing to different proposals from Russia and other countries. But Anji happens to be in FNL now and the skills of Odil Akhmedov should be used at much higher level. Anji did not object to the transfer of the midfield to Krasnodar. The parties agreed all the conditions of the contract for the period of 3 years. On 16 June Odil Akhmedov will join his new team and will start preparation for the season 2014/2015.
