André Villas-Boas: I’m happy with the work we’ve done

print version

The head coach on the match with «Sturm», Dzyuba’s goal, the work at the training camp and the latest transfer news in his interview to the official website.

— How was the match for you? How satisfied are you with the result and the team’s play?
—This game was the second for us in the lead up to the season. The result wasn’t important today, our play was the focus. Since we started training we’ve been working with two a days and the team looked physically very good today. It was hot, +33 and we had a pretty tough opponent and «Zenit» was able to play confidentially in these conditions.  On the whole, I’m happy with the work we’ve done. We’ll already have the Supercup match in a week, and then after another two the season will start again, and in light of all of these factors we are looking pretty good.

—What can you say about the latest additions — Dzyuba and Yusupov?
—Of course it was important for Dzyuba to score. He’s been training hard, has really distinguished himself on defense as well as on the attack and keeping in mind the fact that he only just recently came to us and has already scored, this is pretty significant. We are continuing to work with him and are going to develop his quality as a player, his movement and other things. Artur has been training incredibly well since he came to us. He has good passing skills, moves well, has good field vision and has the necessary work ethic. So the two can only be praised.

—What are you happiest about right now and what bothers you the most during the lead up to the season?
—I’m not particularly worried about anything, we are working primarily on our physical form. A lot of guys are getting some good playing time, but we aren’t expecting anything supernatural. We want to move just as we did in the past season — have combination play, create moments and play our style.

—Are you thinking about the problems with the limit? You’ve always made your respect for the rules known, but now it’s not really in place anymore.
—We’re waiting to see what decisions will be made. It’s been changing every week. The problem that they are trying to solve with the limit seems to me to be more about youth football than professional football and about how to bring kids to play. So really we are just waiting to see what happens.

—Fans are always interested in the lineup — who might leave the team, who might come. Is there anything you are ready to say?
—Right now it’s early to say anything, the market is open for the entire week. A lot of clubs are finishing business and we’ve already brought in a few players. I asked to strengthen some aspects and I hope that this will happen soon. It’s possible that someone might leave so that we could have enough space to make the necessary moves. I’ve told the club precisely who I am interested in and now we’ll see how the situation develops.

—Is this a question for the upcoming week?
—Yes, but it’s not going to be simple. It would be ideal if this were to happen quickly, but I think that it likely won’t happen.
