The Russian football date of birth is considered to be 24 (12) October 1897. On that day  the first ever officially recorded football match took place between Circle of Sport Lovers - KLS and the Vasileostrovsky Assocation of Footballers (VAF). The latter group won 6:0.

All-Russian Football Union was founded on 19 January 1912 and joined FIFA in the same year. On 27 December 1934 the USSR Football Section (later Football Federation) was founded, and FIFA Vice-President Valentin Granatkin became the first Chairman. The USSR National Football Team had a lot of success at the international level. In 1956 and 1988 it won the Olympic Games. Four years later Soviet players won the first in history Cup of Europe. And in 1966 national team brought bronze medals (the 4^th place) from FIFA World Cup. U-21 National Team of our country won European Championship three times (1976, 1980, 1990), and won FIFA World Championship in 1977.

The Football Union of Russia was founded on 8 February 1992. It became the successor of all organizations mentioned above and responsible for the development of football in our country. Russian Football Premier League was founded in 2001. We often we happy on the success of our teams over these years. National Team of Russia won bronze medals of EURO 2008. In 2006 and 2017 U-17 Youth Team of Russia became the winner of European U-17 Championships.

PFC CSKA became the first Russian club which won UEFA Cup in 2005. Zenit from St.Petersburg repeated its success in 2008, and later won UEFA Super Cup.
