Orenburg edged out by Slovan Bratislava

print version

Orenburg lost the first warmup match of their winter training camp 1-0 against Slovan Bratislava. They fell behind early on to a cruel deflected long-range shot against the reigning Slovakian champions and had no reply.

New signings Mamadou Sylla and Kazakh international midfielder Islambek Kuat both featured for 45 minutes. Sylla had an early header and an impressive dribble right through the opposition half. Adi Gottlieb, who has been out with a cruciate ligament injury since August, made his return to the pitch in the first half.

Slovan Bratislava have won 21 domestic titles and 20 domestic cups, and even beat Barcelona in the 1969 European Cup Winners’ Cup final. Next up for Konstantin Emelyanov’s team is Slavia Sofia on Tuesday.
