CSKA Moscow had little trouble in seeing off Dundalk 2-0 in their friendly meeting at Campoamor on Friday. Arnor Sigurdsson scored both goals for the Armymen and missed a chance to claim a first-half hattrick by having a penalty saved.
Hordur Magnusson’s sweeping pass forward caught out the Irish defence after just five minutes, finding trialist David Karaev scampering forward in plenty of space. The Kamaz forward’s cross found Sigurdsson lurking at the back post for a simple tap-in.
CSKA doubled their lead on 11 minutes after maintaining a high line of pressure throughout the opening stages. Jaka Bijol held off a light challenge as he carried the ball towards the edge of the box before slipping Sigurdsson through one on one. The Icelandic midfielder made no mistake.
A clumsy challenge felled the lively Karaev on the half-hour mark. Up stepped Sigurdsson, and although he struck the penalty firmly, it was at a comfortable height for Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers to parry away.
Alan Dzagoev managed 62 minutes before being substituted for Mali under-20 international Lassana N’Diaye. Other than N’Diaye, Konstantin Maradishvili and 18-year-old defender Maksim Eleev, CSKA’s lineup was made up of first-team squad regulars.
