print version

Following the General Meeting of the RPL on Tuesday regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, it was announced that the Russian Premier Liga will be suspended with immediate effect until at least 10 April. President Sergey Pryadkin answered questions about the suspension of the RPL on Tuesday after the announcement.

On the decision to suspend the RPL:

"Based on the decision of the Russian Football Union Executive Committee Bureau of 17 March, at the General meeting of clubs, we decided to suspend the Russian Premier Liga and youth championship until 10 April."

About possibly extending the suspension of the RPL:

"If it is necessary to extend the suspension of the championship, we will meet with the clubs and colleagues from the Russian Football Union (RFU) and make an appropriate decision, which we will inform you about later."

How the RPL’s suspension will be implemented:

"The suspension will be implemented by shifting the rounds until the date of the resumption of the championship, which we plan to hold in full. The decision to postpone Euro 2020 to 2021 also gives us an additional period for hosting games."

When the RPL’s resumption date will be known:

"We have worked out various options for the calendar and will focus on the current situation. We will publish the date of the season’s resumption in accordance with the regulations."

How Champions League and Europa League places will be determined:

"Taking into account that we plan to hold the entire championship, places in the qualifiers and main draws of the Champions League and the Europa League will be determined based on sporting principles, based on the final places in the 2019/20 season standings."

About the situation with players’ contracts:

"It is very difficult to solve this problem alone. It is not an easy task not only for the RPL, but also for all European leagues. This issue is currently being worked out at UEFA, EСA and FIFPro level. We are in close contact with our colleagues from the RFU and are waiting for the position of international football regulators."

About the situation with players’ holidays:

"At the General Meeting, we discussed that each club will consult with its coaching staff and independently make a decision regarding the employment of its players, taking into account the situation and the recommendations of the executive authorities.

“We hope for understanding and a serious attitude from fans and clubs in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. We must all unite and be as responsible as possible in this situation."
