Matchday 9 Review: Lystsov's rocket, Dynamo head second, Ural break winless run

print version

We have rounded up all of the key stats and figures from the matchday nine fixtures in the Russian Premier Liga.

2 - Dynamo Moscow have scored two headed goals in a single RPL match for the first time since a 3-2 win over Anzhi in 2015. They’ve now scored three headers this league campaign - only CSKA have scored more (4).

3 - Khimki have struggled to convert competitive performances into valuable points this season, and one of the main factors is how close they’ve actually come to scoring more - against Lokomotiv they hit the woodwork three times, for the first time in the RPL since 2008. Although they were facing 10 men for much of the game after Guilherme was sent off to be replaced by 17-year-old debutant Daniil Khudyakov, they couldn’t breach the deadlock.

3 - Eduard Spertsyan’s wonder goal fed Krasnodar on the way to a rampant 3-0 win at the weekend, and in the process became the third direct goal involvement for the Armenian international in his last three RPL matches - after none in his first 10.

6 - Artem Dzyuba has been involved in six goals in his last four RPL matches (three goals and three assists) - despite having managed no direct involvement in his first five league appearances this season.

8 - Zenit took advantage of title rivals Lokomotiv and Sochi dropping points to extend their lead to four points, although it wasn't completely plain sailing as Krylia Sovetov took the lead. Zenit have now won eight Russian top flight games in a row against Krylia - they have only managed longer such runs twice, Ural and Alania.

9 - Ural Ekaterinburg finally picked up their first win of the season as they dispatched Arsenal Tula 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Eric Bicfalvi and Andrey Egorychev. They ended a nine-match winless run; had they not won, they would have equalled their longest such top-flight streak in 25 years.

37.8 - Vitaly Lystsov’s long-range rocket from 37.8 metres was the furthest distance out a goal has been scored from in this season’s RPL. The last goal scored that came from a greater distance was Vyacheslav karavaev’s 40m goal in March 2021.

64 - Slowly but surely, Spartak are starting to crawl back towards better form after a 2-0 win over Ufa. Quincy Promes bagged one of the goals, and the Dutchman has now scored 64 goals for Spartak in the RPL since his debut in 2014, 39 more than any other player for the club in that time.
