Zenit finally got a Champions League win on the board at the ninth time of asking, as they strolled past 10-man Swedish visitors Malmo.

Douglas Santos and Claudinho combined to get their Champions League campaign up and running early on as the latter pounced for the club's first European goal of the season.

Santos cut back a low cross after just nine minutes for Claudinho to confidently side-foot home.

Within 10 minutes of the restart, the game was all but over. Firstly, brilliant trickery from Yaroslav Rakitsky allowed him space to chip in towards Daler Kuzyaev; although the midfielder was still some way out and with no great pace on the delivery, he leapt like a salmon and powered a fantastic header into the far corner.

A few moments later, Anel Ahmedhodzic was sent off for Malmo to leave Sergey Semak's side in complete control.

With 10 minutes left, Aleksey Sutormin cut inside onto his weaker left foot to sweep home a perfectly aimed low shot from outside the area. In added time, Sardar Azmoun's fierce shot was spilled by the keeper, with Wendel on hand to tap in to complete the rout.

Zenit temporarily go level with Chelsea and Juventus on three points in third place, while Malmo remain bottom on zero points.
