Matchday 10 Review: Bicfalvi hits Ufa again, Krylia and Sochi smash and grab on the road

print version

We have picked out the best stats and figures from the Russian Premier Liga matchday 10 fixtures.

1 - Sochi claimed the first win in their brief history away in St. Petersburg to throw a spanner in the works of the hosts' title procession. Their first four encounters against Zenit all ended in defeat.

3 - Ural Ekaterinburg continued their renaissance to lift themselves out of the relegation zone with a solid 1-0 win away to fellow struggles Ufa, making it seven points from their last three matches, after picking up just two from their first seven matches. Perhaps most pleasingly for Igor Shalimov, his side have not conceded a goal in these three games - their longest run of clean sheets in almost two years.

5 - Nizhny Novgorod continue to make an impression on their debut journey in the RPL, after they beat Rubin away in Kazan. Their form. Has been extraordinarily weighted towards away games, where they remain unbeaten (W3, D2), while on the other hand they have lost all but the first of their five home games.

6 - Aleksandr Sobolev broke the deadlock for Spartak down in Grozny to set the visitors on the way to a valuable three points. It was the striker's first goal in six RPL games - his longest goal drought since joining Spartak.

7 - Eric Bicfalvi has now scored seven goals against Ufa, having played them 11 times. This is the highest tally against one RPL club. All of those seven goals have come in his last six appearances against them too.

12 - Krylia Sovetov pulled off a stunning win in the capital thanks to the composure of Roman Ezhov to finish off a one on one. In truth it could have been a much higher scoring match, but Krylia won't mind; they finally won a top-flight match in Moscow after 12 winless fixtures (D3, L9).

18 - Zenit finally lost for the first time this season after Sochi came from behind to stun the champions in St. Petersburg. It also ended Zenit's impressive 18-match unbeaten home run, as Sochi became only the second different club to beat Sergey Semak's men at home in the RPL in three and a half years.

49 - CSKA's barnstorming rollercoaster clash against Krasnodar saw a whopping 49 shots on goal - the highest tally in a single RPL match in over a decade. Remarkably though, the game remained goalless.
