Rubin’s winless run finally ended after an entertaining battle with the Armymen in Kazan that saw both sides pepper the opposition goal with plenty of attempts.

Chidera Ejuke thought he had put CSKA in front after just 12 minutes, but VAR pulled it back after spotting Anton Zabolotny interfering with play in an offside position.

Less than 10 minutes before the break, Baktiyor Zaynutdinov snatched at a half chance following sensible forward play from Fedor Chalov and Zabolotny, sending his shot wide from 12 yards out.

Right at the death Rubin struck. CSKA’s defence switched off, allowing Mikhail Kostyukov to drift in unmarked to power home an unstoppable header from Sead Haksabanovic’s perfect cross.

Rubin go seventh on 19 points, while CSKA stay third on 23 points.
