VEB Arena welcomed the battle between the RPL leaders and newcomers. As in the previous matches, the Armymen started much active, Jesus Medina was close to score the first goal of the match but sent the ball little higher the net. Fakel attempts mostly came in the second part of the half, and they earned the chance to take a penalty after VAR review, as it found Medina hitting Kirill Suslov’s leg. Georgy Gongadze buried from the spot scoring his second goal in second straight game.

CSKA turned the game after the break, and they started with an equalizer from Konstantin Kuchaev, who smashed it to the corner assisted by Fedor Chalov. Next Jorge Carrascal was brought down in the box, only later VAR called for a penalty, and Medina gave the hosts lead. Shortly Chalov scored himself beating RPL debutant Ilya Svinov in the near corner. Finally, Carrascal got the pass from Medina and tipped the ball above Svinov. Both South American have now three goals each this season, and Carrascal also was awarded with third MOTM prize.

CSKA tied Spartak on 10 points and goal difference (11-3), so according to RPL Regulations, the Armymen took the first place because of last season standings, where CSKA were fifth, while Spartak finished tenth. Fakel are twelfth on two points.
