Ex-Zenit’s Mak makes two goals for Slovakia to beat Russia

Trnava trip ended with a first defeat for Russian team in the World Cup Qualifiers. The hosts took the lead with the Milan Skriniar header after Robert Mak’s cross from the corner. Mario Fernandes got his second goal in three March fixtures to tie the game, but just three minutes later Mak smashed from the penalty box line for the game-winner, while former Zenit and Dynamo Moscow player Tomas Hubocan earned an assist.

Russia are second in the group H with six points, Slovakia moved to third with five points.

Other group fixtures included Cyprus beating Slovenia 1-0 at home and Croatia defeating Malta 3-0.
