FC Rubin Kazan were awarded gold medals

FC Rubin Kazan were crowned Champions of Russia for a second consecutive year. Acting president of Russian Football Union Nikita Simonyan and president of Russian Football Premier League Sergey Pryadkin presented team with gold medals and Russian champions cup on a special ceremony yesterday, December 2, in Kazan.     

Rubin finished 8 points clear from second place. A goalless draw with Zenit one week before the end of League was enough for them to clinch the title after rivals Spartak Moscow lost 3-2 to CSKA.

FC Rubin Kazan was founded in 1958. They were promoted to Russian Premier League in 2003 finishing 3rd in their first year in top division and making UEFA Cup debut in 2004/2005 season. Rubin  won Russian League for the first time in 2008. Kurban Berdyev has been coach of Rubin since 2001. He was voted best coach of Russia in 2009.  

Argentinian striker Alejandro Dominguez from Rubin was voted best player of Russia for 2009 season by Russian Football Union. He played 26 games scoring 16 goals.
