On 29 March 2017 Russian Football Championship celebrated its 25th birthday. Four matches which gave start to the new tournament were held on this day in 1992.
"Russian Football Championship continued the Soviet Union competition of the top division clubs. Over a quarter of a century professional football in Russia made a huge step in development. We fully deserve being among the top 6 European club tournament, we are a uniting structure on the post-Soviet territory.
Today we are on the eve of quality changes which are able to bring the Russian football to the new heights.
I would like to congratulate all players, coaches, club staff, veterans who created the glorious history of the Russian football, and of course, all supporters on this important date. A fantastic future awaits us. Football – it’s us!”.
