Ufa lose first winter friendly to Ujpest

Ufa began their winter training matches with a 2-0 defeat to 20-time Hungarian champions Ujpest on Saturday. A double from forward Soma Nowotny before half time settled matters in Larnaca, Cyprus.

Before Nowotny’s excellent stooping header after seven minutes Ufa had threatened with a close-range block from Ujpest’s keeper denying them. Ujpest were gifted a penalty just after the half-hour mark which Nowotny smashed home.

After half time Ufa dominated the best chances but couldn’t find a way through. Ufa had rotated all but one of their whole starting line-up by the second half as is customary in warmup matches, while they haven’t confirmed any transfers yet this winter.

They now move on to face Slask Wroclaw on 25 January in Cyprus.
