Sochi opened their first training camp with a 0-0 draw against Romanian top-flight side Chindia Targoviste on Sunday. Vladimir Fedotov’s first match in charge saw him field a strong lineup that included Kirill Zaika, who had missed the first part of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
Andrey Mostovoy saw a free header tipped onto the bar early on before having a shot blocked at close range. The highlight of the second period was a winding run into the box by teenage winger Nikita Koldunov, after Ivan Miladinovic had glanced a header wide from a corner.
Chindia Targoviste, who were only promoted from the second-tier last summer, were founded by Romanian legend Gica Popescu 10 years ago. They have only won four league games this season and are third-bottom of the league.
Sochi will take on St. Polten on Wednesday 22 January.
