Zenit opened their winter training schedule at the Aspire Academy in Doha with a one-sided 10-0 annihilation of local outfit Al-Uwaynah. Aleksandr Kokorin stole the headlines by scoring a hattrick, assisting two and having a goal disallowed for offside - all on the day his loan to Sochi was announced.
Kokorin was also given the captain’s armband for his first match in Zenit colours in over a year. Serdar Azmoun also bagged a hattrick in the second half, while Russian national team captain Artem Dzyuba scored twice. Yordan Osorio and Sebastian Driussi also got on the scoresheet.
Trialist Bauyrzhan Islamkhan impressed in his second-half appearance. Within 15 minutes after coming on the Kazakh midfielder had delivered a free kick for Osorio to head home and set up Serdar Azmoun for his first.
Zenit will face far sterner opposition in their next friendly fixture when they face Red Bull Salzburg on Saturday 25 January.
