Sivakov sent off as Orenburg beaten by Sigma Olomouc

print version

Orenburg kicked off their second training camp with a 2-0 defeat to Czech top-flight side Sigma Olomouc. Mikhail Sivakov was sent off on 24 minutes with Sigma converting the resultant penalty, but Adi Gottlieb was allowed to be substituted on in his place as per friendly rules.

Sivakov clearly pushed the ball over the crossbar with his hand and was understandably shown a red card. Pablo Gonzalez sent the spot kick in off the inside of Aleksandr Dovbnya’s right hand post to break the deadlock.

Orenburg looked the more dangerous side in the first half as Mamadou Sylla put Sigma’s defence under heavy pressure. Seven minutes after half time Despotovic somehow missed from six yards when unmarked.

Moments later Danil Lipovoy skied a shot over rather than exploit a promising two-on-one situation with Joel Fameyeh. Once Mojmir Chytil lost the attention of Gottlieb and Vitaliy Shakhov to head home a second on 58 minutes, the result was sealed.

But for Andrey Klimovich’s superb fingertip save from Gonzalez just after the hour mark the margin of victory could have been greater. Despotovic did see a shot trickle inches wide and a point-blank header blocked late on, but couldn’t find a way through.

Orenburg face FK Borac Banja Luka on 31 January in the next warmup match.
