Bakaev and Ignatyev score first Rubin goals in Spartaks Jurmala thrashing

print version

Rubin Kazan signed off from their second training camp in style with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Latvian side Spartaks Jurmala. Soltmurad Bakaev bagged his first two goals for the club before Ivan Ignatyev also opened his account from the penalty spot.

Georgian teenagers Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Zuriko Davitashvili combined after just eight minutes for the latter to head home the first goal. Although the scoreline remained the same until the break, Rubin were in complete control.

Bakaev wasted no time in increasing Rubin’s advantage after coming on at half time. Five minutes in, he dribbled directly at the defence before smashing a shot over the keeper from outside the area.

Eight minutes later Bakaev collected a flick-on header from Davitashvili in space on the left flank. Carrying possession into the area he looked up for options but decided to go himself by finishing from an acute angle.

Bakaev was substituted off after 69 minutes, but still had time to spark a goalscoring attack. His run and pass inside found Denis Makarov, who was tripped in the area. Ignatyev converted the penalty to make it 4-0.

Spartaks converted an added time penalty to take the sheen off an otherwise commanding performance. Rubin return to Turkey for their final training camp on Thursday 13 February.
