Shinnik Yaroslavl 0-2 Ural Ekaterinburg
Russian Cup quarter-final, Wednesday 24 June, Yaroslavl

Goals: Ural - Bavin (15’), Augustinyak (79’)

Sent off: Shinnik - Oleynikov (78’)

A strong Ural Ekaterinburg side booked their place in the Russian Cup semi-final after goals from Yuriy Bavin and Rafal Augustinyak saw off second-tier Shinnik Yaroslavl. Ivan Oleynikov was sent off for the FNL hosts late on, moments before the decisive second was struck.

Only talisman Erik Bicfalvi and Cameroonian international Petrus Boumal were rested from the starting lineup ahead of the RPL fixture list condensing to a bi-weekly schedule.

It only took Ural 15 minutes to take the lead through Bavin’s header after Michal Kucharczyk’s powerful effort was blocked. Bavin had curled a tempting cross onto Andrey Panyukov’s outstretched foot but the first-time shot was saved.

With less than quarter of an hour to go Ivan Oleynikov was dismissed for a second booking. As if spurred on by his side’s numerical advantage, Augustinyak robbed Nikita Matskharashvili of possession a minute later and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner.

FC Ural will face FC Khimki in the semi-final on 18/19 July, with a place in the final at their home stadium against the winner of Zenit St. Petersburg vs Spartak Moscow at stake. In the RPL, they host FC Tambov on Sunday 28 June. Shinnik’s league season is over after the FNL was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Shinnik Yaroslavl: Yashin, Steshin, Pokidyshev, Patrashko, Zinkov, Oleynikov, Samoylov (Pukhov 83’), Ektov, Aleynikov (Maslennikov 82’), Nizamutdinov (Matskharashvili 46’), Samodin (Gongapshev 88’)

Ural Ekaterinburg: Godzyur, Kulakov, Wilusz, Emelyanov, Zolotov, Bavin, Augustinyak, Kucharczyk (Yusupov 87’), Egorychev, El Kabir (Kalinin 85’), Panyukov (Efremov 68’)
