Dzyuba to the double as Zenit come from behind to beat Krylia

print version

Zenit St. Petersburg 2-1 Krylia Sovetov Samara
Friday 26 June, Gazprom Arena

Goals: Dzyuba (pen 64’, pen 70’); Glushenkov (44’)

Man of the Match: Malcom

Artem Dzyuba struck twice from the penalty spot after Maksim Glushenkov, on loan from Spartak Moscow, had given bottom-of-the-league Krylia Sovetov Samara a shock first-half lead. Dzyuba also hit the post late on before a Dejan Radonjic rocket was ruled out by VAR.

Krylia had the better of the opening exchanges. Glushenkov got the run on Rakitskiy after just six minutes, latching onto a curling through ball before shooting inches wide with Andrey Lunev at full stretch. Twenty minutes later he flung himself at a deep cross from the left flank but could only glance it wide with the goal at his mercy.

A minute before half time Glushenkov bulleted a powerful header from Zinkovskiy’s left-wing cross into Andrey Lunev’s bottom corner. It was the very least his industrious performance merited.

Within seconds of the restart Zenit thought they had drawn level through Malcolm’s beautifully stroked shot, but a VAR review ruled it out after Artem Dzyuba was caught marginally offside in the buildup.

Vyacheslav Karavaev, Serdar Azmoun and Branislav Ivanovic all had clear chances within the first quarter of an hour after half time, and inevitably the pressure told just after the hour mark. Artem Timofeev handled the ball under pressure from Dzyuba, leaving the RPL’s top scorer to convert the penalty. Shortly after he stepped up to the spot again to score his 15th goal of the season.

Radonjic came on with less than quarter of an hour to go, and within a minute stunned the crowd by lashing home a vicious first-time shot from Glushenkov’s touch back. A VAR review ruled out the equaliser though for an earlier handball.

Zenit St. Petersburg face FC Tambov away from home next on Wednesday 1 July, while Krylia Sovetov Samara travel to take on Lokomotiv Moscow on Tuesday 30 June.
