Mamaev and Ionov help Rostov's returning first team to win over Arsenal

Evgeniy Lutsenko’s 11th goal of the season wasn’t enough for Arsenal Tula as Pavel Mamaev and Aleksey Ionov scored to give FC Rostov a 2-1 win. Valeriy Karpin and his senior players returned to action after completing a 14-day quarantine.

Mamaev broke the deadlock inside 35 seconds as he capitalised on some poor marking by Arsenal Tula’s defence. The former FC Krasnodar midfielder bundled in the rebound after Yuriy Lodygin had blocked his first shot.

Aleksey Ionov extended their lead after 17 minutes by lunging to head in Eldor Shomurodov deliciously curling cross. Just before the hour mark Evgeniy Lutsenko reduced arrears with a thumping header from Danil Lesovoy’s delicate cross. 

Danila Proshlyakov had a day to forget as he came off the bench in the second half, only to miss an open goal and later get sent off in added time.

Next up, FC Rostov resume their southern rivalry against FC Krasnodar at home on Wednesday 1 July, while Arsenal Tula host Akhmat Grozny on the same day.
