Lokomotiv miss penalty and have winner ruled out by VAR in added time

print version

Lokomotiv Moscow 0-0 FC Sochi
Saturday 4 July, RZD Arena

Man of the Match: Aleksey Miranchuk

Aleksey Miranchuk couldn’t save Lokomotiv as his 99th minute penalty struck the post. VAR had twice denied the Railwaymen as they struggled to turn their dominance into goals as Timur Suleymanov and Eder were rightly denied goals for offside.

On his first start in seven months, Anton Miranchuk chested an awkward ball up, turned inside four players and threaded a ball through to Eder to slot home. Unfortunately for Lokomotiv, a quick VAR review correctly ruled it out for offside.

By the finest of margins Suleymanov was also denied in added time. Lokomotiv thought they had been handed the most dramatic of reprieves deep into added time, but Aleksey Miranchuk’s remarkable scoring run came to an end as his spot kick was inches from going in.

Lokomotiv Moscow travel across Moscow to face Spartak Moscow next on Wednesday 8 July, while FC Sochi are away to Zenit St. Petersburg on the same night.

Lokomotiv Moscow: Kochenkov, Zhivoglyadov (Magkeev 90’), Murilo, Corluka, Idowu, Kulikov (Rybchinskiy 72’), Krychowiak, Zhemaletdinov (Joao Mario 64’), Aleksey Miranchuk, Anton Miranchuk, Eder (Suleymanov 72’)

FC Sochi: Dzhanaev, Miladinovic, Mevlja (Poloz 46’), Novoseltsev, Zaika, Burmistrov, Tsallagov, Noboa, Nabiullin, Kokorin (Zabolotniy 90+4’), Mostovoy
