Denis Makarov struck the only goal of the game in the second half as FC Orenburg were condemned to their sixth consecutive defeat.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was once again the main threat for Rubin, forcing Klimovich into a flying save around the hour mark. It wasn’t long before Denis Makarov broke the deadlock though as he pounced from close range from Kvaratskhelia’s inswinging cross.

Rubin Kazan host FC Krasnodar next on Thursday 9 July, while FC Orenburg take on CSKA Moscow at home on Wednesday 8 July.
