Krotov and Fomin move Ufa into pole position for potential Europa League spot

print version

FC Rostov 1-2 FC Ufa
Wednesday 8 July, Rostov Arena

Goals: Rostov - Hadzikadunic (27’); Ufa - Fomin (pen 68’), Krotov (75’)

Man of the Match: Daniil Fomin (FC Ufa)

Vyacheslav Krotov sealed a precious comeback win for FC Ufa shortly after Daniil Fomin’s penalty had drawn the visitors level. Denis Hadzikadunic had earlier given Valery Karpin’s side the lead with a first-half header.

Hadzikadunic handed Rostov the lead halfway through the opening period with a looping header into the far corner.

Ufa got back into the game from the penalty spot through Fomin’s fifth goal of the season just before the hour mark. Khoren Bayramyan’s clumsy challenge just outside the six-yard box led to a VAR review, and a clear decision for the referee to retrospectively award the spot kick.

With quarter of an hour to go Fomin’s cross caused a scramble in the six yard box. Krotov was on hand to smash home the loose ball.

FC Rostov travel to take on FC Orenburg next on Sunday 12 July, while FC Ufa are away to Lokomotiv Moscow on the same day.

FC Rostov: Pesyakov, Bayramyan (Logashov 71’), Osipenko, Hadzikadunic, Chernov, Popov (Glebov 68’), Normann, Mamaev, Zaynutdinov (Saplinov 84’), Ionov, Shomurodov (Proshlyakov 84’)
