FC Sochi 1-0 Spartak Moscow
Saturday 11 July, Fisht Olympic Stadium
Goals: FC Sochi - Maslov (OG 22’)
Man of the Match: Georgi Dzhikia (Spartak)
Spartak Moscow’s misery continued as Pavel Maslov’s first-half own goal handed FC Sochi a vital win that saw them leapfrog their visitors in the table. Despite completely dominating possession and shots on goal, Spartak couldn’t find a way through.
Half way through the opening period, an Andrey Mostovoy drilled cross caused havoc as Aleksandr Maksimenko could only just get a hand to it. A back-pedalling Maslov was left watching on as his foot looped the ball over his head and into the far corner.
Aleks Kral was denied at close range by Nikolay Zabolotny with 10 minutes remaining as Spartak pushed for an equaliser. Kral had earlier looped a free header over the bar from six yards.
FC Sochi are away to FC Tambov next on Thursday 16 July, while Spartak Moscow are at home to Akhmat Grozny on Wednesday 15 July.
