CSKA Moscow 1-1 Rubin Kazan
Sunday 12 July, VEB Arena
Goals: CSKA - Chalov (62’); Rubin - Markov (pen 87’)
Man of the Match: Fedor Chalov (CSKA)
Evgeny Markov’s penalty in the closing minutes gave Leonid Slutsky’s Rubin Kazan a draw as his coach sat on the visitor’s bench for the first time against the Armymen. Fedor Chalov had earlier given CSKA the lead with his third goal in four RPL games.
Georgi Shchennikov, Arnor Sigurdsson, Ivan Oblyakov and Nikola Vlasic were denied by Yury Dyupin in the first half when through on goal as Yury Dyupin kept CSKA at bay. Sigurdsson also clipped the bar with a controlled left-footed shot from distance just before the break.
The resistance broke just after the hour mark when Chalov waited patiently to pick his spot and finish into Yury Dyupin’s bottom right corner.
Zuriko Davitashvili stung Igor Akinfeev’s hands with a dangerous chance in the last 10 minutes. Rubin’s pressure told as Markov equalised from the spot with three minutes left after Kvicha Kvaratskhelia was tripped by Oblyakov.
CSKA Moscow are away to city rivals Lokomotiv Moscow next on Thursday 16 July, while Rubin Kazan welcome FC Rostov on the same day.
