Azmoun double overcomes Vlasic wondergoal

The RPL’s most lethal strikeforce combined to break the deadlock as Artem Dzyuba headed Dejan Lovren’s long ball across to Sardar Azmoun to lash a volley through Igor Akinfeev’s hands. CSKA responded in some style as Nikola Vlasic carried the ball deep into Zenit’s half before unleashing a spectacular finish into the far corner.

Azmoun picked his spot to perfection with 20 minutes remaining as he swept Vyacheslav Karavaev’s cutback through a crowd of bodies and into Akinfeev’s bottom corner.

Zenit are now left as the only side with a 100% record and move onto nine points, while CSKA are stuck on six.

Zenit St. Petersburg host FC Tambov next on Saturday 22 August, while CSKA Moscow welcome Rubin Kazan to the VEB Arena on the same day.
