Spartak put pressure on Zenit with win in Kazan

Spartak drew level with Zenit at the top of the table with an assured win away to in-form Rubin Kazan, despite playing the last half an hour down to 10 men. Jordan Larsson put them in front early on before Rubin full-back Mikhail Merkulov deflected a cross into his own net. In the second half Pavel Maslov was shown his second yellow card but Rubin couldn’t reduce the deficit.

Rubin remain in sixth place on 11 points as Spartak reclaim their top-two spot on 17 points. Rubin take on Rotor Volgograd away next up on Sunday 27 September, while Spartak are away to FC Tambov on Saturday 26 September.
