After two losses in the previous Champions League group stage Lokomotiv took a point against Atletico at the home stadium. Diego Simeone's side took the lead thanks to Jose Maria Gimenez header from Hector Herrera cross, but five minutes the hosters were awarded with a penalty, when referee Benoit Bastien used VAR to check Herrera’s hand ball in the box. Anton Miranchuk scored from the spot and got his second goal in this Champions League campaign. During the second half Luis Suarez goal on the rebound was cancelled due to the offside.
It’s the second draw in Lokomotiv vs Atletico head-to-head, the first one took place in October 2007, when both teams met at Lokomotiv Stadium in the UEFA Cup group stage and ended 3-3. Later Spanish team defeated the Railywaymen four times in a row in the 2017/18 Europa League Round of 16 and the 2019/20 Champions League group stage.
Lokomotiv are third in the group on two points, while Atletico are second on four points.
