Russia end Nations League campaign with defeat in Serbia

The final Nations League matchday ended for Russians with their worst defeat since 2004, when the national team suffered 7-1 loss against Portugal in 2006 World Cup qualification. Last time Russia conceded five goals in one game happened also on 18 November in 1998, when they were beaten 5-1 by Brazilians in the friendly match.

The Serbs ended the first half with four-goal lead thanks to the Luka Jovic’s double and goals by Nemanja Radonic and Dusan Vlahovic. After the half-time Stanislav Cherchesov made four substitutions, which included Guilherme replacement with Soslan Dzhanaev and international debut for Roman Evgenyev. Dzhanaev conceded once from Filip Mladenovic.

The Russians ended Nations League campaign on the second place in the group B3, while Serbia finished third. The first place and the League A spot was taken by Hungary who defeated Turkey 2-0.
