Defeat at Lazio end Zenit’s hopes for Champions League play-off

RPL champions were beaten at Stadio Olimpico, and it cost them chances to get a play-off spot in the Champions League. Lazio started with a long-distance goal by top scorer Ciro Immobile, and in the middle of the first half Marco Parolo doubled the lead in the same style. It took three minutes for Artem Dzyuba to score his first Champions League goal this season, but the hosters brought back two-goal advantage in the second half, when Immobile made a double from the penalty spot.

Zenit remain on the bottom of the group F with one point, while Lazio stay second on eight points. The group leaders Borussia Dortmund are still on top after defeating 3-0 Brugge at home.
