CSKA were handed a lifeline with less than 20 minutes remaining, but Nikola Vlasic skied his penalty well over the bar. In the closing stages, Dmitry Barinov made his first league appearance since suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Lokomotiv jump up to sixth on 31 points, four points behind Spartak in fourth, while CSKA stay second on 37 points.
