Arsenal Tula 1-2 CSKA Moscow
Russian Cup quarter-final
Thursday 8 April, Arsenal Stadium
Goals: Arsenal - Lutsenko (33); CSKA - Karpov (48), Fernandes (86)
Sent off: Arsenal - Lutsenko (55)
Evgeny Lutsenko got Arsenal off to a solid start with his first competitive goal since last August 10 minutes before the break. After half time, however, the tie unravelled for the hosts. Firstly Vadim Karpov powered a back-post header in to equalise three minutes into the second half. A few moments later Lutsenko was sent off for an elbow to Igor Diveev’s face.
As CSKA piled on the pressure they were met with stern resistance, but with time fast running out, it took a exceptional moment of vision from Alan Dzagoev to thread a perfect ball through the defence for Mario Fernandes to latch onto and smash home first time.
The draw for the Russian Cup semi-finals takes place on 9 April.
