Azmoun double fires Zenit seven points clear

Sardar Azmoun scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season to complete a comeback win for league leaders Zenit, and cement their hold on the title race. Nikita Burmistrov had given the hosts the lead with his seventh goal of the season from close range, but the lead didn’t last long.

Azmoun leapt highest to power home a Yaroslav Rakitsky free-kick five minutes later, before another pin-point header 10 minutes from time completed the turnaround.

Not only was it a crucial three points in their title defence for Zenit, but it ended Sochi’s 13-month unbeaten home run.

Sochi stay seventh on 40 points, while Zenit remain top on 54 points.
