Key Points from Matchday 26: Milestone for Noboa, Clinical Dynamo, Ufa records

print version

We have rounded up all the key facts and figures from Matchday 26 of the Russian Premier Liga.

Three - For the third year in a row, Krasnodar hosted Zenit St. Petersburg in an epic RPL battle in which both teams scored at least twice. In the 2018/19 season Artem Dzyuba settled an effective title decider in the sixth minute of added time, while last season’s encounter down south again saw Zenit come out on top, this time in a six-goal thriller to seal the title. This time may not have had as direct an impact on the title itself, but it seems this fixture is destined to be a modern classic.

Three - Andrey Mostovoy scored the late equaliser for Zenit with his fifth goal of the season, but it was impressive for the fact that it was his third goal off the bench since the winter break - the most goals scored off the bench since February. He also sealed the coup de grace for Zenit at home to Khimki on Matchday 24 in added time to make it 2-0, while he also scored the fourth and final goal on matchday 22 at home to Akhmat Grozny.

Three - Three is the magic number this week! Aleksey Stukalov’s honeymoon was spectacularly extended at the home of the 2017 RPL champions, as Ufa shocked Spartak with a 3-0 win for the biggest ever win away from home in the RPL, and their record win over Spartak. It follows on from last weekend’s 3-0 win over Akhmat, and sets them up for a chance to equal their longest ever run of consecutive wins in the top flight - which stands at, you’ve guessed it, three matches...

Four - Until recently, Arsenal Tula hadn’t had a great deal to cheer about in the league, but now they have two wins in a row to pull them five points clear of the automatic drop zone after a 4-0 hammering of FC Tambov. The icing on the cake was that in doing so, they equalled their all-time record winning margin in the RPL, having also previously posted the same scoreline against Amkar (2014), Krylia (2018), and Lokomotiv (2019).

Six - Akhmat’s 3-1 win over Khimki maintained their flawless record against the surprise package newcomers; it was their sixth win from six previous top-flight meetings against the Moscow Region side. In fact, it is one of only two 100% records they hold against Russian Premier Liga teams, although the other is against Rotor Volgograd, whom they’ve only faced once - earlier this season.

Seven - With time running out for the league leaders to salvage a point, it was Douglas Santos who supplied the ammunition for Mostovoy’s dramatic equaliser. The Brazilian defender notched up his seventh assist of the season, taking him clear of the others on the leaderboard. Ilya Kukharchuk and Christian Noboa are tied on six assists behind Santos.

Nine - When Daniil Fomin successfully stepped up to take a penalty away to Rotor Volgograd at the weekend, it was Dynamo Moscow’s ninth of the season. They have been the most efficient side from the spot, scoring all nine awarded to them; while two other sides also boast a 100% strike rate - Rubin and Sochi have both converted all five of their respective penalties - Dynamo are out in front for volume scored. Only Akhmat have been awarded more (10), but they have only scored half of those.

300 - Christian Noboa completed three hundred RPL games after playing for Sochi against CSKA. Curious, that in 2007 the Ecuadorian started his Russian career in Rubin Kazan with meeting the Armymen in Moscow. Later he was a part of Dynamo Moscow, FC Rostov and Zenit St. Petersburg and won the Championship three times before joining Sochi. Noboa also converted the penalty against CSKA at Fisht Olympic Stadium and got his 55th goal in the RPL.
