RPL and club leaders discuss Orenburg appeal

print version

On 4 May, a working meeting of Russian Premier Liga club leaders was held.

The participants discussed the issue of licensing for Football National Liga (FNL) clubs that earn the right to be promoted to the RPL on sporting grounds for the 2021/22 season, as well as a letter from FC Orenburg addressed to the president of the RPL.

Orenburg asked the RPL to apply to the Russian Football Union for permission for the club to participate in the 2021/22 RPL season, despite the non-compliance of their Gazovik stadium with the RPL's licensing criteria.

The Russian Premier Liga and the clubs state that they welcome the sporting principle, but the decision on licensing must be made on the basis of the current regulations. Orenburg are members of the FNL, and the decision to issue the club a license comes under the responsibility of the RFU commission for club licensing.

The commission will meet on 5 May.
