Akhmat Grozny 2-2 Spartak Moscow
Sunday 16 May, Akhmat Arena
Goals: Akhmat - Ilyin (20, 31); Spartak - Promes (52), Moses (85)
Man of the Match: Quincy Promes (Spartak)
Vladimir Ilyin rocked Spartak’s early hope of securing second place with a double inside the first half hour Grozny. The second in particular was a poor one to concede for the Champions League hopefuls, as Ilya Kutepov was caught napping to let Ilyin ghost in at the back post to nod home a simple second.
They were the striker’s eighth and ninth RPL goal of the season, making this comfortably his most productive top-flight league campaign. Quincy Promes struck back soon after the break though to bring Spartak one goal from confirming a top-two finish.
With little over five minutes remaining Victor Moses stepped up to drill an emphatic shot home after Aleksandr Sobolev’s hold-up play.
In Moscow Lokomotiv took a late lead, meaning a late Akhmat goal would deny them Champions League football, but they held on.
Akhmat end up 11th on 40 points, while Spartak hold onto second and the Champions League places on 57 points.
