Sardar Azmoun – RPL Best Player of the Season

Zenit striker Sardar Azmoun has won the vote to determine the RPL Player of the 2020/21 season.

The voting was completed by the head coaches and captains of the RPL teams, the head coach of the Russian national team Stanislav Cherchesov and commentators of MATCH Premier TV channel. Azmoun earned 76 points and was ahead of last year's award winner Artem Dzyuba, who was second with 61 points. Third place was taken by Sochi midfielder Christian Noboa, who scored 51 points.

Azmoun wins the Player of the Season award for the first time. In the 2019/20 season, the winner in this category was Dzyuba, while in the 2018/19 season it was picked up by CSKA striker Fedor Chalov.

In the 2020/21 season, Azmoun became a three-time Tinkoff RPL champion and the winner of the Russian Super Cup. In 24 RPL matches, the 26-year-old Iranian scored 19 goals; this is the most productive season in his career. In the list of top scorers, the striker finished second, losing out to Dzyuba by one goal.
