print version

Euro 2020, Group E Matchday 2
Sweden 1-0 Slovakia
Friday 18 June, St. Petersburg Stadium

Goal: Sweden - Forsberg (pen 77)

RPL Players: Kristoffer Olsson, Marcus Berg, Viktor Claesson (both FC Krasnodar)

Sweden struggled to gain control of the game in St. Petersburg as Slovakia dominated possession, but they did have arguably the best chance of the game just after the hour mark. Sebastian Larsson whipped a dangerous cross in for Ludwig Augustinsson, but his powerful header was tipped over by a stunning Martin Dubravka save.

Alexander Isak was twice denied brilliantly by Dubravka, before Robin Quaison was dragged down by the Newcastle keeper with 14 minutes remaining. Emil Forsberg stepped up to smash a superb penalty into the corner.

Kristoffer Olsson and Marcus Berg both started the match, before being substituted off together just after an hour. Olsson was replaced by club teammate Viktor Claesson, having been booked midday though the first half.

Former Zenit winger Robert Mak played for 77 minutes for Slovakia, while ex-Zenit and Dynamo Moscow defender Tomas Hubocan also started, before coming off on 84 minutes.

Sweden go top on four points, while Slovakia drop to second on three points.

Next Euro 2020 fixtures: Wednesday 23 June - Sweden vs Poland; Slovakia vs Spain
