RPL teams’ summer training camps: Zenit draw with Werder, Lokomotiv lost to Aris

On 7 July, the Russian Super Cup participants played friendly matches at their training camps in Austria.

Zenit 2-2 Werder

The reigning RPL champions drew their second match in a row, after a goalless draw against Schalke on 3 July. This time they couldn’t find a way past Werder, who will play in the 2.Bundesliga. Werder led 2-0 at the break, and in the second half the Blue-White-Sky Blues equalised thanks to goals by Sebastian Driussi and Andrey Mostovoy. The next match in Austria for Sergey Semak's team will be on 11 July against Karlsruhe, also from the German second tier.

Lokomotiv 1-2 Aris

Marko Nikolic’s men suffered their first defeat of the off-season. Maciej Rybus scored the only goal for Lokomotiv in the third minute, but the Greek side then scored twice after the break. Before the Super Cup, the Railwaymen will play two more matches in Austria; against Slovenian outfit Celje on 11 July, and against Rostov the following day.

Zenit and Lokomotiv will play the 2021 Russian Super Cup on 17 July at Kaliningrad Stadium.
