Chalov sets up both goals as CSKA ease through to the knockouts

print version

Metallurg Lipetsk 0-2 CSKA Moscow
Russian Cup Elite Round Group 10, Matchday
Tuesday 26 October, Metallurg Stadium

Goals: CSKA - Bohinen 42’, Bistrovic 85’

Emil Bohinen struck his first goal for CSKA Moscow just before half time with a wonderfully taken shot from the edge of the penalty area to break Metallurg Lipetsk’s resistance. Konstantin Kuchaev sent a quick pass into Fedor Chalov’s feet with the striker’s back to goal, but his first-time touch engineered enough space for Bohinen to disguise his left-footed shot into the far corner.

For the second time in consecutive Russian Cup fixtures, CSKA handed a teenage goalkeeper a first-team debut, although this time it was an enforced selection. Vladislav Torop was forced to go off with a slight knock with less than 20 minutes remaining, giving Danila Bokov his first appearance for the senior side.

Bokov had little to do in truth before Kristijan Bistrovic all but ended the tie as a realistic contest with five minutes remaining. The supply line was identical to the first, as Kuchaev fed Chalov from the left flank, and the striker again took one touch to tee up the goalscorer.

Bistrovic tried to return the favour in the last minute by setting Chalov clean through on goal, but the striker’s radar was well off as he skewed his shot well wide. By then, though, the result was already secured.

CSKA advance to the last 16, which is scheduled to take place between 1-3 March 2022.
