On 3 February, Zenit and Rostov played friendly matches in Portugal and Spain.

Zenit 1-0 Midtjylland

The RPL leaders kicked off at the Atlantic Cup friendly tournament in Portugal by beating the three-time champions of Denmark in the first match. The victory over Midtjylland came thanks to a goal from Nurali Alip, the on-trial Kairat defender. Former CSKA striker Vagner Love played for the Danes from the 60th minute; the Brazilian joined the team on 20 January. Zenit will play two more matches at the tournament; against Copenhagen (10 February) and Brondby (11 February).

Rostov 0-0 Hacken

At their camp in Marbella Rostov played out a goalless draw with Hacken, who finished 12th in the Swedish championship last year. Rostov have not yet won a single match in the winter break, having earlier lost 2-0 to Sparta Prague and 2-1 to Stuttgart.
