Dynamo Moscow coasted through to the Russian Cup quarter-finals with a comfortable win over fellow RPL side Nizhny Novgorod.
Daniil Fomin converted a penalty deep into first-half added time after Lars Olden Larsen was adjudged to have handled the ball from close range after a VAR review. Artur Nigmatullin was sent the wrong way as the hosts went into the break one goal to the good.
Less than ten minutes after half time Vyacheslav Grulev converted a second from Denis Makarov’s assist.
Sylvester Igboun made a return to his former club for the visitors, managing a short spell off the bench, but left empty handed.
Fedor Smolov came off the bench himself for Dynamo and marked his second appearance in his second spell at the club with a penalty of his own to complete the rout four minutes from the end.
Diego Laxalt and Daniil Lesovoy were given brief runouts with minutes remaining after lengthy injury layoffs to complete a thoroughly satisfying evening’s work for Sandro Schwarz’s men.
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Friday 4 March.
