Sochi 1-2 CSKA Moscow
Russian Cup Last 16
Wednesday 2 March, Fisht Central Stadium
Goals: Sochi - Noboa 41’; CSKA - Diveev 59’, 87’
An Igor Diveev headed double completed a rousing comeback win for CSKA after half time to knock Sochi out of the Russian Cup.
Christian Noboa was once again the dangerman for Sochi as his carefully-steered finish just before half time set Sochi on course.
Jesus Medina came within inches of breaking the deadlock just before the half-hour mark as his dipping volley was tipped onto the crossbar by a full-stretch Soslan Dzhanaev diving save.
Moments later Mateo Cassierra latched onto a ball over the top to burst through on goal, but squirmed his effort well wide when he should really have done better.
Just as the hour ticked over, Igor Diveev sent a thumping header over Dzhanaev from Medina’s corner to draw the Armymen level. Only a stunning double save five minutes later from the Sochi keeper prevented CSKA from taking a quickfire lead.
With three minutes left on the clock, Diveev was once again on hand to bullet the ball past Dzhanaev and complete the comeback
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Friday 4 March.
