Russian Cup Last 16
Wednesday 2 March, Otkritie Arena
Goals: Spartak - Promes 6’, 17', Nicholson 20', 62', 86', Larsson 83'; Kuban - Dzhikia 55' (OG)
Spartak wasted no time in getting over derby defeat disappointment as Quincy Promes took advantage of some scrappy defending just six minutes in to slot home a simple finish.
The score was already 3-0 by 20 minutes as the Dutchman added a second before Shamar Nicholson opened his account for the club. It could have been four just two minutes later, but Daniil Khlusevich was denied a first Spartak goal of his own by VAR.
A Georgi Dzhikia own goal 10 minutes after half time threatened to give Kuban hope, but Nicholson bagged his second just after the hour mark to restore Spartak's three-goal lead.
To cap off an emphatic night, Jordan Larsson curled home a beauty with seven minutes left from outside the box for his first domestic goal of the season, before Nicholson completed his hattrick with a delightful chipped finish.
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on Friday 4 March.
