Baltika Kaliningrad 1-1 (4-5 pen) Dynamo Moscow
Russian Cup quarter-final, Tuesday 19 April
Kaliningrad Stadium
Goals: Baltika - Geloyan (84); Dynamo - Makarov (35)
For the first time since 2011/12 campaign Dynamo Moscow reached the Cup semis. The White-Blues kicked off in Kaliningrad with the same starting 11 as against Akhmat on last Friday except Anton Shunin, Diego Laxalt and Fedor Smolov, who were replaced with Igor Leshchuk, ex-Baltika Dmitry Skopintsev and Konstantin Tyukavin. The striker had a chance to score after a free kick, but hit the crossbar. With 10 minutes left in the first half Denis Makarov made a cross, which surprisingly turned into a goal after passing all the players in the box.
Baltika, coached by Russian national team legend Sergey Ignashevich, started the second half with two substitutes, and of them made an impact in the final minutes of the regular time. Ishkhan Geloyan, new recruit for the Armenia national team, caught a chance in the box and beat Leshchuk to tie the game. Dynamo keeper got his moment of glory in the penalty shootout, when saving the first attempt by Igor Aleynik. Baltika completed all the next four shots, while Dynamo did not miss any of five, thanks to Sebastian Szymanski, Fedor Smolov, Arsen Zakharyan, Daniil Lesovoy and Daniil Fomin, who scored the decisive penalty.
The draw for the Russian Cup semi-finals will take place on Thursday 21 April.
